Social Responsibility at eve workwear

Eve workwear has a strong culture and history of being a socially responsible and ethical business. This stems from our roots of raising the voices of a minority that is women in trade industries. As a company, we strongly identify as an ethical business, right from the manufacturing of the garments, through to our day to day practices and policies. We are inspired by women who have fought against all odds to make a place in a heavily male dominated environment. Our ethos therefore has us fighting for justice socially, ethically and environmentally.

Sustainability at eve workwear comes from our core; the organisation is managed in a way that ensures we are being socially responsible, environmentally friendly, and economically sustainable.  This includes creating healthy and innovative work environments, conserving resources and reducing waste, increasing our social footprint, and fostering a culture of workforce engagement in sustainable options. Our people feel valued, equipped and empowered to make change on a community and global level. We provide a platform for women in trades to make change on every level of our business.

The following outlines actions we are taking to ensure eve workwear is as ethical as possible.

Representation:

We never want a fellow woman in trades to feel excluded or unrepresented in any way. It is the very reason that eve workwear was created in the first place. To ensure we represent all women, we are constantly reviewing and expanding our size range. Currently, we have up to nine sizes per product and this is a number we are looking to increase.

We are also aiming to increase representation in our shoots. This includes both race and age. If you are located in Brisbane and feel as though you are not being represented in our campaign imagery, get in touch, we’d love to have you on our next shoot!

Manufacturing:

We very closely monitor our manufacturing process to ensure that it remains up to our high standards. Eve workwear has complete control over all manufacturing and production of items. We built our own factory/warehouse in Bali, and hire people of legal age, and pay fair salary. This warehouse sustains a community to flourish and grow in this environment. We keep in close and constant contact with the factory manager, and are notified of any concerns which are promptly addressed.

Environment:

We are concerned about the basic human rights of future generations; therefore, we pursue the wise use of energy, the protection of the environment and the replenishment of the earth’s resources for their use and enjoyment. From manufacturing, to the order being placed into the customers’ hands. This includes reducing waste, re-using where feasible and recycling packaging and materials.

We source materials with low environmental impact wherever possible. We only use natural dyes and natural sustainably sourced fabric such as cotton.  The only synthetic fabric is in our stretch fabric which has 2% elastin to allow for a bit of give. This means that all of our 100% cotton clothing is compostable.

The denim fabric used is raw, meaning it has not been altered from its original state. This means we aren’t using up to 4,000 litres of water to make the denim look ‘worn’. As tradeswomen, we are more than capable of wearing our denim in!

Our warehouse and head office have a strict sorting of all waste, including composting all scraps, recycling and sorting out soft plastics to be recycled. We are aiming to offer compostable packaging for shipment of all items to further reduce plastic going to landfill in the near future.

These action points are of great importance to us and we know they are to you, our eve customers. We are committed to improving wherever possible and will inform you of any updates.
